City University Malaysia is delighted to announce that in an event held recently, the University’s prestigious Chancellor's Medallion was awarded to the globally renowned performer Dimash Qudaibergen and he was welcomed into the City University Malaysia family.
The award was bestowed in recognition of Dimash’s contribution to the performing arts and utilisation of his artistic mastery to transcend boundaries. In attendance at the invite-only ceremony were heads of mission, members of the diplomatic corps, his family, City U students community and fan club representatives.
Dimash Qudaibergen, a Kazakh singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is university-trained in classical, as well as contemporary music, and is known for his exceptionally wide vocal range. He has performed songs in thirteen languages ensuring his global appeal.
Dimash Qudaibergen is expected to draw a large crowd for his live solo concert on 24th June 2023 in Kuala Lumpur as part of his global ‘Stranger’ tour. He is widely recognized for his exceptional professional achievements and the dedication he demonstrates to his craft, his humility, and commitment to using his music and public profile as a platform for positive change.
“Over the years, I have constantly been promoting peace and unity through the interactions I have and in my music. In one of my songs ‘The story of one sky’, I have tried to convey the idea of peace, an appeal to the world to respect every culture. It is my hope the song would be able to touch the hearts and minds of everyone as we fight against the troubles of the world, “ said Dimash in his speech.
The Chancellor's Medallion is the highest honour presented by the City University
The Chancellor's Medallion follows a long tradition of internationally renowned universities publicly recognising the contribution of influential individuals in enhancing the fabric of society. It is amongst the most prestigious honours awarded by City University Malaysia. Representing the Chancellor, the award was presented by Datin Rohaidah Shaari, City University Malaysia Founder and Managing Director, and Professor Dr Mustaffa Halabi Bin Azahari, City University Malaysia Vice Chancellor.
Dimash Qudaibergen expressed his gratitude for this award, stating, "This recognition inspires me to continue my effort through my voice and my music to make a difference in the world. I shall hold this recognition dear to my heart, and City University Malaysia even closer to my heart."
“I would not be here today without the support of my family and all my fans from around the world. Your extraordinary love, appreciation and support definitely keeps me going. To everyone out there, continue to chase after your dreams,” said Dimash.
Professor Imrie, Deputy Vice Chancellor (External Engagement) at City University Malaysia, highlighted the importance that the performing arts play within society and that they are not simply a form of entertainment. Rather, “they are a vital component of a thriving society. They serve as a mirror of our shared human experience, a catalyst for social change, a nurturer of creativity, and an economic driver.” In today’s ceremony, the University acknowledged the impact Dimash Qudaibergen has made in using his platform for social causes, demonstrating his compassion and desire to make a difference.

The University has a holistic view to higher education, with the emphasis placed not only upon academic attainment but also artistic expression and social integration.
