Srinivas Rao, Chief Strategy Officer of AVM Cloud Sdn Bhd, believes that the future of cloud computing lies in the use of multi-cloud architectures.

“Currently, businesses use the public cloud to scale their existing IT resources on demand, without committing to expanding their physical IT infrastructure, or for their storage needs. Using the public cloud can save businesses money through lower equipment purchase and maintenance costs,” said Srinivas.

“However, using the public cloud as part of a hybrid cloud architecture allows them to have the benefits of the public cloud, while also maintaining the different benefits that come with on-premises architecture and private cloud options,” he added.

“For instance, hybrid cloud provides an alternative for storing sensitive data—a company might provide services via a public cloud, while keeping sensitive information on a private cloud.”

The multi-cloud architecture is an extension of the hybrid cloud, Srinivas explained.

“Hybrid cloud operations focus on consistent management of a common infrastructure layer based on technology deployed across clouds. A hybrid cloud solution works best when a single set of management tools, skills and workflows can extend seamlessly across consistent infrastructure that is common to both on-site, public cloud, and hosted environments.

“But what if you wanted to operate across two or more clouds that don’t have consistent infrastructure? This is where multi-cloud solutions play an important role.”

According to Srinivas, multi-cloud solutions are designed to help manage workloads that run on the native infrastructure of public clouds (e.g. Amazon’s AWS, Microsoft’s Azure, and Google Cloud).

Management across a multi-cloud environment can be a challenge for organisations, as well as increased costs and protecting workloads. Improving operational governance and automating core processes are also high priorities to solve.

“As IDC had reported, hybrid/multi-cloud architectures based on multiple generations of technology are the norm in enterprises, which expect virtual machines (VMs) and containers to co-exist and integrate to support multiple application generations.”

“This comes with its own operational challenges, with 57% of enterprises focusing on ensuring application performance and availability, as well as consistent security, access control, and compliance,” Srinivas added.

“This is why AVM Cloud has focused its premium product and service offerings on helping our customers with these concerns.”

AVM Cloud is one of Malaysia’s leading cloud computing providers, leveraging VMware’s various cloud and virtualisation solutions. A home-grown brand that was founded by 5 Malaysian entrepreneurs, AVM Cloud prides itself by being a leader in every technology cycle since its establishment.

“AVM Cloud was the first VMware Authorised Consultant and Premium Partner in Malaysia, and also amongst the very first VMware Verified Cloud Partners in the country. We implemented the largest virtual storage area network (VSAN) in Malaysia, and we helped the second-largest Malaysian bank implement our ‘cloud-in-a-box’ service.”

In Malaysia, AVM Cloud operates 3 major data centres; 1 in KL and 2 in Cyberjaya, all of which are in compliance with various international standards, including PCI DSS, ISO/IEC standards, and Tier-3 of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard For Data Centres.

In addition, AVM Cloud’s multi-cloud offerings are available on a local basis across the region, ensuring that companies in Malaysia, as well as those based in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, can be assured that whichever cloud they choose to use, AVM Cloud hosts their data locally and preventing issues with data sovereignty from cropping up.

AVM Cloud’s capabilities and expertise in the cloud services field was part of the reason for its recent acquisition by telco TIME dotCom Berhad (TIME).

“TIME’s controlling stake in AVM Cloud heralds our efforts to accelerate the growth of cloud computing,” said Kit Au, TIME’s Head of Enterprise division.

“AVM Cloud features a comprehensive product suite that ranges from private cloud offerings to system integration services, and its customer base includes over 250 enterprise customers; hence giving us a very strong head start.”

Meanwhile, AVM Cloud’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Integrated Global Solutions Sdn Bhd, provides system integration services such as solution design, deployment and multi-cloud migration services.

“Leveraging TIME’s local and regional footprint, we are now able to widen our coverage to serve even more customers. We will be able to bring your business to the regional level and expose your business to more prospects,” said Srinivas.

“These expansion opportunities can then help your business develop multiple revenue streams, increase your market share, and improve your product offerings,” he concluded.
