BAC Education pledges to provide digital skills training for thousands of Malaysians this year with a holistic solution designed to bridge the skills gap and to bring both Malaysian employees and enterprises into the digital economy.
In partnership with PERKESO and HRDF, PROJECT DEEP (The Digital Enterprise and Employee Program) is a pledge by BAC Education to empower over 1000 Malaysians via a unique two-pronged approach to nation-building. This holistic approach aims to accelerate nation building through the development of digital skills in order to increase growth and create employment. This innovative program is also designed to;
- encourage foreign investment;
- empower under-served communities;
- bridge the existing skills gap; and
- increase access to education.
BAC Education’s Managing Director Raja Singham announced the initiative on Monday and stressed the importance of hiring and training workers for the jobs of the future at a time when everyone needs to work hand in hand to help the economy. He said that public-private partnerships were the way forward and expressed his hope that “more companies would come forward to work with the government to create jobs and help our fellow Malaysians get through these challenging times”.
The World Bank, in its latest report, has warned of a third shock in Asia, focusing on Southeast Asia in particular. The World Bank also projects that the pandemic could push another 11 million people into poverty, mostly due to the loss of jobs — the biggest quantum in a generation. On the domestic front, the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research expects some 2.4 million people to lose their jobs, the majority of whom are daily wage earners and unskilled workers.
Project DEEP looks to Reskill and Upskill Malaysians with Free Certified Training
With Project DEEP, enterprises can reskill and up-skill existing employees to ensure the business is agile and adaptive to future technological advances. By bridging the skills gap and empowering their staff with the right training and knowledge provided via Project DEEP, enterprises can now stay ahead of digital disruption.
Raja Singham said that the Group will harmonize its efforts with the government and corporate allies to help unemployed locals and fresh graduates achieve employment and be prepared to meet the challenges of automation and digitization in the workforce. ‘We need a collaborative and innovative approach between all stakeholders - government and private sector employers and employees if we are going to have any real success in reducing unemployment. We will be establishing more partnerships with employers and employment agencies to provide them with digital economy ready talent.’ said Raja Singham.
Earn While You Learn with Project DEEP
The need to resolve the glaring digital skills gap must take center stage as unemployment numbers rose to 610,000 in March. Project DEEP is a unique solution through which unemployed Malaysians and fresh graduates can be hired, trained and up-skilled with skills needed for the digital economy.
“Applicants are given the opportunity to apply for certain roles and will undergo an interview process that will offer us the opportunity to place them in the role that is best suited for them,” said Raja Singham. “This approach allows participants to improve their soft skills, generate experience and learn technical skills to gain hands-on knowledge where we further pledge to place and train Malaysians within the Group and beyond,” he adds.
Successful applicants are guaranteed jobs and can choose from a range of careers in digital marketing, web development, programming, graphic design, AI, RPA. The comprehensive ‘learn-while-you-earn’ scheme will cover technical skills, practical on-the-job training, job skills and future skills including project management, entrepreneurial skills, leadership, collaboration, communication, sales, and design thinking amongst others.
