  • Tea leaves
  • Milo
  • Potatoes

Update: 27th March
Today we covered 100 families, distributing food and to poor families affected by the current locked down. We have included a video from the community leader to thank you. We have received calls for help in various parts of KL from poor families needing such items as rice, sugar, biscuits, milk, cooking oil. Please share this with your contacts and friends. For as little as RM60 we could feed a family.

Press Release: 29th March
I refer to the recent statement by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Defence Minister's press conference a moment ago, has indicated that NGOs delivering food directly to communities are no longer allowed to do so, as part of minimizing exposure and restricting movement. Instead they should channel their food deliveries to coordinating centres managed by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat. The distribution of food will then be done by Rela and ATM.

We in Suriana Welfare Society have been distributing food for the past 12 years to various communities. Each family have been assessed for the need to receive food aid.

Due to the current Corona Virus locked down many low income wage earners have no money to buy food. They live in low cost flats and the children are without food. The people have called us for help and we have responded by supplying food such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, biscuits etc. We have a list of names and through the local committee we have been distributing the food.

We are updating our donors as to the distribution and to the places and families. We are strictly following medical standards when handling and distribution of food. Our staff wear mask and gloves and maintain 1 meter distance.

We are working with The PJ Police and they have given us the approval to move and distribute food to the various communities

The Government directive calls for concerns as to who will be the recipients will be and how will the distribution will be done. The questions that donors are asking is how will they know that the food items will reach the right people. That there must be some form of accountability and transparency in the selection and distribution of the food. What about our existing families that we are currently helping? How then do we account to our donors as distribution of the food items.

I propose that the Government agencies work with NGOs in helping us in our distribution of food items. They can assist us by providing manpower and transport. Together we can help the various communities.
