KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Teng offers his resignation

Selangor executive councillor Teng Chang Khim offered to resign after state guidelines for construction of non-Muslim houses of worship had included controversial provisions, which he said were wrongly printed.

MIC Youth chief C Sivaarajh said this showed poor leadership and Teng should go, but Selangor DAP unanimously said there was no need as the mistake did not hurt anyone.

More clues on ex-PAS leader who 'got 1MDB funds'

PKR's Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli dropped more hints on the former PAS leader who allegedly received funds from 1MDB, by saying that the person once tried to be a bridge between PAS and Umno.

Rafizi also vowed to reveal the identity of the former PAS leader, who he said received 1MDB funds through Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

PAS rages over Pandikar-Hadi as monkeys comic

Chinese language daily Nanyang Siang Pau apologised and retracted a cartoon it published last Saturday, depicting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as a turban-wearing monkey, and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia as a songkok-wearing monkey.

PAS accused the daily of being "rude" and disrespecting Muslims through the cartoon lampooning the Parliament sitting when amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act were tabled last Thursday.

In a related matter, Rafizi asked, during a mock parliamentary debate on the Act 355 amendments, whether the changes to the law could ensure that the royalty and the rich would not be able to escape punishment under the syariah enactments.

Other Kinibites

A 48-year-old man was arrested at 3.15am yesterday for allegedly maligning the government via a placard he carried during the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19, 2016.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad listed questions on 1MDB he wanted to ask Tourism and Culture Minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz on his blog, but Nazri said he would not entertain them unless the debate, which was scrapped, actually takes place.

Looking ahead

Selangor PAS Youth will send a memorandum to protest the monkey cartoon to the Nanyang Siang Pau office in Petaling Jaya, while Kelantan PAS Youth plans to torch copies of the daily in Kota Baru and throw the ashes into the sea.
