AG talking to Swiss authorities on SRC

Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali is in communication with Swiss authorities on their investigation into SRC International but not 1MDB, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Razali Ibrahim.

Bank Negara Malaysia governor Muhammad Ibrahim said the forex (foreign exchange) scandal in the early 1990s which the government intends to investigate happened a long time ago. However, it is prepared to cooperate.

China's Geely reportedly said that it had withdrawn from its bid to partner national automaker Proton.

Meanwhile, International Trade and Industry Minister II Ong Ka Chuan said Proton will announce its new partner in May.

Jack Ma, founder of China's biggest online retail platform Alibaba, said he did not want to be paid for his role as adviser to Malaysia on digital economy.

Dr M agrees to rescheduled showdown

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has agreed to a rescheduled debate with Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz after police blocked their planned showdown in Kuala Kangsar. The debate will now be on April 7 in Shah Alam.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng hailed Nazri as a "warrior" for pressing ahead with the debate and took a jibe at Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan who aborted his debate with the DAP leader after the police issued a warning.

Abdul Rahman pointed out that Guan Eng ended up being charged with corruption. Therefore, cancelling their debate which would have touched on the investigation against the chief minister was justified.

Meanwhile, Parti Pribumi Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir's former special officer Haris Che Mat joined the fray by challenging his ex-boss to a debate in Jerlun.

Umno information chief Annuar Musa offered RM10,000 prize for an essay writing contest on whether DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang is a racist.

DAP member Zaid Ibrahim countered by offering a RM10,000 prize for essays on whether Najib Abdul Razak was the worst prime minister.

PKR and PAS trade barbs over S'gor

PKR and PAS traded barbs after Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamad Azmin Ali took a veiled potshot at PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz for saying that PAS wanted to capture the state.

PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail reiterated the need for cooperation, recalling how PAS had worked with PKR during the reformasi era.

Najib met with BN parties over the proposed amendment to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 but no decision was made. There were strong objections to the proposal from the ruling coalition’s East Malaysian partners.

Journalists submitted a petition to Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia to reconsider a directive preventing them from being at the Parliament lobby to interview MPs.

The prime minister's press secretary Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad defended the decision, stating that it was meant to prevent journalists from misquoting MPs.
