Jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed Dr Mahathir Mohamad's announcement that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) intends to join Pakatan Harapan.

"Bersatu's intention to join Harapan should be viewed positively as it will strengthen the opposition in our bid to displace BN as the government in the next national election," Anwar said in a statement today.
