KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Pyongyang doubts M’sian police, Putrajaya insulted

North Korean envoy Kang Chol said at a press conference that Pyongyang has doubts over the Malaysian investigations into the death of Kim Jong-nam at KLIA2 last week.

Speaking at the embassy in Kuala Lumpur after he was summoned by Wisma Putra, Kang also said Malaysian police had threatened a suspect’s family at gunpoint and beat the suspect’s son.

Wisma Putra also recalled the Malaysian envoy in Pyongyang for consultation.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said Kang is making allegations based on “delusions, half-truths and lies” and that Putrajaya is insulted by the insinuations that it was covering up the murder of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s half brother.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said there is no reason for Malaysia to cast North Korea in a bad light.

Meanwhile, there was a media frenzy at KLIA2 over speculation that Jong-nam’s son had arrived, allegedly from Macau, but there was no confirmation that he did so.

Separately, an airline source claimed that the four North Koreans sought by police in relation to the murder left Malaysia an hour after the incident.

The post-mortem results may be ready on Wednesday, said Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam.

Ambrin to retire, Madinah to be new auditor-general

Auditor-general Ambrin Buang is set to hang up his boots on Wednesday, to be replaced by former Education Ministry secretary-general Madinah Mohamad.

Chief secretary Ali Hamsa did not state why Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak advised the Agong to appoint Madinah, instead of extending Ambrin’s service.

Ambrin oversaw the public audit on 1MDB, but the report is still sealed under the Official Secrets Act.
