Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos has lamented the police treated Bersih participants at their nationwide convoy yesterday far better than they treated the opposing red shirts.

"I believe yesterday's events saw the police giving special treatment that is extraordinary to Bersih 5," he said.

Jamal complained the police not only took care of the convoy, but escorted each one more thoroughly than they would the prime minister.

"On the other hand, the treatment given to the red shirts movement, I would liken to that of anjing kurap (sick dogs)," the grassroots Umno leader said in a statement today.

"The police blocked our every location.

"The red shirts were stopped at every place and we were told by the police to immediately stop our convoys," he said, adding three of his members have been detained.

"The way we were treated is far different when compared to Bersih."

'Bersih the lawbreakers'

He accused Bersih of being the ones breaking the law by trying to "topple the government" and cited incidents in Bersih 3 and blaming the electoral reform group of "extreme violence" in the massive rally of 2012.

Yesterday Bersih went on its third nationwide convoy to drum up awareness for the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19, which calls for electoral and institutional reforms beginning with Prime Minister Najib Razak's resignation.

The convoys from six locations in several states saw regular run-ins with the opposing red shirts, with the confrontation in Sabak Bernam, Selangor seeing considerable violence against the yellow-clad Bersih participants.
