Jewellery seized by MACC weigh 19.3kg and are worth RM3.64m

Jewellery seized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) from the director and deputy director of a government agency in Sabah weighed RM19.3kg and is worth RM3.64 million.

A source close to the team that is investigating a case of alleged abuse of power involving an infrastructure project worth RM3.3 billion in Sabah, said MACC obtained the services of an expert from Bank Rakyat to assess the value of the jewellery.

“The weight of the jewellery seized from the suspect who holds the post of director is 14.5kg worth RM2.74 million.

“The weight of the jewellery seized from the suspect who holds the post of deputy director is 4.8kg worth RM900,000,” said the source when contacted by Bernama.

The source also disclosed that the jewellery valuation process began at around 10.30am and ended at about 12.15pm.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the information.

In a press conference on Wednesday (Oct 5), he revealed that MACC had seized cash, jewellery and nine luxury cars from the suspects and their families.

At the latest count, the value of the haul has reportedly exceeded RM114.5 million.

The director, deputy director and two other individuals are currently under remand till Oct 11 to facilitate investigations.
