Three student activists have been remanded for trying to force their way into Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Seri Iskandar campus in Ipoh to promote the #TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 rally.

Muhammad Luqman Nul Hakim Zul Razali, Luqman Hakim and Ashraff Nazrin were remanded until Aug 23 and will be detained at the Seri Iskandar district police headquarters.

They are being investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for holding an assembly without prior notice, and Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespassing.

If found guilty, they face a fine of up to RM10,000 under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, and up to six months' jail or a maximum fine of RM3,000, or both under the Penal Code.

In a statement, PSM activist Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul complained that the trio were remanded at Batu Gajah magistrate court without their lawyers present.

This, he said, was because the lawyers were told that the remand hearing would be at the Ipoh magistrate court.

"Throughout the remand proceeding, they were not accompanied by laywers to defend them due to the wrong information given.

"Our efforts to contact the investigating officer for the correct information also failed," he said.

He urged activists to gather at the Seri Iskandar district police headquarters tonight to show their solidarity.

The trio were arrested yesterday after they insisted on entering UiTM's Seri Iskandar campus to promote the upcoming rally.

'Malaysian Official 1' was mentioned in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) 136-page filing to seize US$1 billion in assets allegedly acquired using money stolen from 1MDB.

The DOJ believes more than US$3.5 billion was stolen from the Malaysian fund and at least US$731 million of this money entered the personal bank accounts of Malaysian Official 1.

The rally, slated for Aug 27 in Kuala Lumpur, will call for action against Malaysian Official 1.
