The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territories Ministry today set new parking rates according to three zones, effective tomorrow.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a statement said a RM1.50 charge would be levied for the first hour of parking in the city centre and RM2.50 for the second hour, with a maximum parking period of two hours.

"For areas outside the city centre with a high level of activities such as Sentul, Bangsar and Brickfields, the charge for the first and subsequent hours will only be RM1.

"Charges for areas outside the city center such as Segambut, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Setiawangsa, Sungai Besi and Bandar Tun Razak for the first and subsequent hours is RM0.80," he said, adding that there would be no parking time limit in the latter two zones.

Tengku Adnan said parking fees may be paid using coins, Touch 'n Go cards, and a mobile phone application.

He said for those parking long hours on a daily basis, DBKL had also introduced monthly passes that could be subscribed online, at very reasonable rates.

He said the implementation of the new parking rates had taken into account the diverse needs of users and was based on the principle of 'moving people not vehicles'.

"It is DBKL's intention that when all the plans are implemented, citizens will enjoy a more smooth and efficient traffic flow," he said.

He said people who wished to purchase monthly passes and find out more information on the services provided by DBKL could visit www.citypark.my.
