Seven charged over fatal shooting at Taman OUG

Six men and a woman were charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur and at Kuala Lumpur Hospital in connection with the murder of a property agent at Taman Overseas Union Garden (OUG) early this month.

They were M Pal Ganapathy, 26, and S Vijendran, 29, who were charged with murdering Wong Siew Ling, 32, at Jalan Hujan Emas 4, OUG, Off Jalan Klang Lama, between 2pm and 2.30pm last July 6.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Five others - K Sri Kanapathy, 34; Chen Yuen Ming, 41; Chin Kok Leong, 43; K Sattiyarad, 29, and a woman, Liew Lai Chen, 46, - were charged with abetting the offence at the same place and time.

The charge, under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 302 of the same law, carries the death sentence, if found guilty.

All the accused nodded their heads after their respective charges were read out to them before Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin.

The charge against Sattiyarad was read out to him at HKL as he was admitted there with dengue fever.

However, no plea was recorded as the case came under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The court set Oct 4 for mention.

Lawyers Nur Hayati Don Omar represented Sri Kanapathy; Simon Sabapathy and Christopher Lai King Lung for Chin, and M Raja represented Liew, while deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa appeared for the prosecution.
