Johor PKR has invited former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin to join the party after he was expelled from Umno last week.

Its chief Hassan Karim said the door was also open for Muhyiddin's supporters to continue their struggle within PKR.

"We in PKR respect Muhyiddin's clear and firm stance in the 1MDB issue.

"We understand that Muhyiddin will not appeal Umno's decision to sack him from the party, therefore we at PKR, particularly in Johor, extend our hand of friendship to Muhyiddin and all his supporters to make a change and reform our country together, beginning in Johor," he said in a statement today.

Hassan noted that Muhyiddin, as a former Umno deputy president, former deputy prime minister and former Johor menteri besar, wields significant influence in Johor.

"PKR and its partners in Johor Pakatan Harapan aspire for a strong political force in Johor to face the next general election.

"We welcome Muhyiddin to join us in a wave of people's uprising in Johor for a government that is just, transparent, not corrupt and people-friendly," he said.

Muhyiddin, along with former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir, were last week sacked from Umno on disciplinary grounds.

Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal was also suspended by the Umno supreme council.

All three were staunch critics of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's handling of the 1MDB scandal and the multi-billion-ringgit deposits in his personal bank accounts.

Najib claimed the money was a "donation" and denied ever taking public funds for personal gain.
