SG BESAR POLLS Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri reiterated today that she will not support law amendments that will pave way for the implementation of hudud.

Nancy, who is the minister in charge of law, said this was in line with Sarawak PBB's stand in rejecting the amendments.

Asked if she would vote against the bill, she said she would not even be in the Dewan Rakyat when tha takes place.

“Not only will I reject (the bill), I will not even be there.

"I have already demonstrated it on the day it was tabled. I was not inside (the House)," Nancy told reporters in Sungai Besar today.

Being absent from voting will actually make it easier for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's Hudud Bill to be passed.

This is because he only needs a simple majority, based on the number of lawmakers present in the House at the time of the vote.

Hadi's Private Member's Bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 is set to be debated in the next session of Parliament, which begins in October.

The bill seeks to make amendments to the federal law to allow for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

Nancy said such amendments were unnecessary.

"We need to understand, hudud or not hudud, what they are trying to do is increase syariah punishment provision in the law.

"What we have is already sufficient. We don't need to increase the punishments.

"But if they want to do it, that is their business."
