This comes as the haze choking the country becomes steadily worse.

Air Polutant Index (API) readings as of 11 last night showed air quality in Kuala Selangor to have reached a dangerous levels of 207 while readings for the rest of Selangor hover around the 170 range.

The reading in Negri Sembilan was 200 for Nilai; Malacca at 193; Kuala Lumpur at 192 and Putrajaya at 182.

The Meteorological Services Department said yesterday it was prepared to carry out cloud-seeding operations today to deal with the haze.

It had previously forecast that the smog would be blown away starting Sept 20, when monsoon winds blow across Malaysia towards Indonesia.
