Zahid: BN’s attitude must change to win voters back

BN needs to change its attitude if it wants to remain relevant to the voters, especially the Chinese and Indians, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

"What has gone wrong with us in Umno and BN? We need to change our attitude and start caring again. We have to win the hearts and minds of the voters," Zahid said in his speech at the Umno Puchong division delegates' meeting in Serdang today.

The "hatred culture" that has been cultivated among the people, he mused, might be the cause of BN losing support among the people.

"Our situation seems bad, but I don't think it is so, except when the hatred culture has been cultivated," he said.

Another reason why BN might have lost support, he believes, is because they are fighting among themselves within the coalition.

Hence, BN must change their attitude if they want to win Selangor back from the opposition, he said.

"(This is so) the people know BN is better than the current Selangor government.

"Convince the Chinese and Indians (in Selangor) that we are better than the current government.

"They don't hate us. They just don't trust us," Zahid told the audience.

In fact, he said, the federal government gave a lot of funding to Selangor for their state projects but they still lost the state to the opposition.

"This shows that money is not everything. It is wrong to use money to buy influence," he said.
