Is Umno keeping a noose around Anwar’s neck?
ADS

YOURSAY ‘Allah decides. If you are meant to be shot you will never be hanged.’

Jiminy Qrikert: It might appear that Umno has hit on the perfect solution of keeping a noose around Anwar Ibrahim and tightening it enough to choke and immobilise him just before key political events like the Kajang Move. A repeat of this is very highly possible as we progress towards GE14.

Tightening the noose enough to kill off Anwar will create an instant rakyat's hero of him or even possibly our very own Nelson Mandela. Umno will feel it is way too smart to do this and opt for tightening the noose at the opportune times instead so, chances are Anwar is right. He will remain free.

But Umno faces a Catch-22 situation between creating a hero by incarcerating Anwar yet again and allowing him a full four years to strategise how to escape the noose and win the 14th general election (GE14). My bet is on Anwar to remain free. I pray he will.

Pemerhati: According to law expert Aziz Bari, in the Perak constitutional crisis case, the law was turned upside down to arrive at ridiculous verdicts. There was thus strong suspicion that the judges were remote controlled by Najib Abdul Razak.

The current Chief Justice and many of the judges, who gave those verdicts that Najib wanted, are now in the Federal Court. Anwar’s verdict will be decided by Najib and the judges will be remote controlled to deliver it. Najib is allegedly using the judiciary to toy around with Anwar like a cat that toys around with its helpless prey. The big question now is will the cat go for the kill or decide to continue to toy around with its prey until the next elections.

Man of God: Trust me, Anwar will not go to jail for the moment. Anwar will definitely lose the case but there will be a loophole made way for him to allow to make way to appeal. The special appeal will be allowed. The case will be allowed to be heard in court to far away date. So that Anwar will not be left of the hook.

Life will be made difficult for Anwar because our judges are allegedly remote controlled. Poor Anwar has to go through the agony. His case will linger until GE14. Najib by then will be replaced by an Umno stalwart.

Fate will play a cruel part on Anwar. GE14 will never be won Pakatan. By then Anwar will be a spent force. His health will not permit to go on. He will go down in history as the leader who glued the opposition together and sent fear into the spines of Umno.

Maybe our cucu (grandchildren) might read of Anwar in the History books and that is the maximum recognition he gets. His daughter Nurul Izzah will never be the PM. The forces in Umno and also Pakatan will derail her. Maybe out of the ashes a new star will be born.

Proarte: If there was a fair trial, Anwar would be acquitted. The trial to date is in fact a travesty of justice. The evidence adduced to justify prosecution was pathetic and an insult to intelligence. The appeal court conviction was clearly politically motivated and sadly the judiciary allowed itself to be dictated by Umno wishes.

The Federal court has the chance to right a wrong and hopefully sense will prevail. To my mind, if the Federal court acquits Anwar it would be because Umno wishes it to be so. Personally, I believe Anwar is more of a liability for Umno if he is in prison and hence I suspect he will found innocent.

Axolotl: May the festival of lights signal the demise of the Dark Age of Mahathirism that has blighted this once fair nation. Anwar's freedom is OUR freedom, never forget that.

Homesick: Anwar, I hope you are right and justice prevails. But we are talking about Umno's justice and Umno's law, not forgetting the kangaroo court. Let's hope that all parties concerned come to their senses and acquit you.

Anonymous_ABG: Umno and their mongrels tirelessly interfere into the domestic matters of PKR. The brainless media print speculative and imaginary stories about Pakatan component parties to please Umno but in the end, such stories end up in the trash can. With mass media advancement, people are in a better position to come to a sensible conclusion.

A dedicated leader would work hard to have a winning team - Umno should learn it from Anwar the mechanism of it.

Ablastine: Jailing Anwar means jailing the head of the opposition which has won majority votes in the country. For what charges? Sodomy? That is a ridiculous charge in many parts of the world. The facts of the case are even more ludicrous. An old man with a back problem doing it on a young tall stag with impeccable political connection and who had a meeting with the PM just before his police report. Think anybody will believe this?

You put Anwar in jail, he becomes another Ang San Suu Kyi or Nelson Mandela. You may be able to put him there but how long can you keep him there. You have to deal with his supporters (which is more than half the nation), human right groups, United Nation and possibly a call from US President Barack Obama.

You gave him sympathy votes for free, you make him into a martyr and his voice will even sound louder in jail than out of it with all the recordings and YouTube around. I do hope Umno will put him in jail though, so they can screw themselves real good this time.

Fair Play: Anwar, here is how I see it. Jailing you might be the final straw that breaks the camel's back. The risk is just too great, I suppose.

Hank Marvin: Yes, you were right Anwar. Even when most of us did not have the confidence way back in 2008, you did.

Senior Citizen: I have written many times before and I am going to say it again here. Anwar's appeal will be allowed by the Federal court and he will walk free. Why do I say this? The case was heard in full at the High Court which was spread over many months. After hearing all arguments and testimonies the judge found him not guilty.

The Federal Court is not going to be foolish to ignore all the findings and set aside that decision. If so then where will the credibility of the Federal Court be? The world will be looking at Malaysia as a country without any courts and our judges will be seen as ridiculously stupid. There can be nothing more ridiculous than this.

My inner feeling is that we have some excellent judges at the Federal Court come what may. Nobody in his right mind would want to demolish this sacred reputation especially since Malaysia has been elected as a non permanent representative at the UN Security Council. We must also remember Anwar is no ordinary citizen. he is highly respected all over the world.

Touche: Sorry, but you are going to jail. Najib is now so powerful that even Dr Mahathir Mohamad has no say and influence over him or Umno. He can allegedly abuse his authority and mismanage all the nation's monies as can be seen with 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB) with impunity and no recourse to any of his wrongdoings. I am pretty he would have allegedly kowtim the judges with his slush funds from 1MDB.

Nil: In the land of endless possibilities, yes, that can happen. But laws can be interpreted to work differently for different people. You are not one them...

Antibody: Logic or no logic, right or wrong, definite or indefinite, legal or illegal, all those are immaterial. Remember, Allah decides. If you are meant to be shot you will never be hanged.
