PAS clearly not ready for coalition politics

YOURSAY ‘PAS as an organisation is completely dysfunctional.’

Rebel rep: PAS' holier than thou notion perilous

Malaccan: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is learning to his grief that Hulu Kelang state assemblyperson Saari Sungib is no pushover and cannot be bullied by his mere religious rhetoric.

Saari is competent and up to the task of facing his critics and even a cleric who lack self-control over his language and emotions.

To his credit, Saari has held his fire and responded in a more honourable manner than his party president, that any reasonable person can immediately draw inference as to whom deserves more respect and admiration of the two.

Saari is no new believer in Islam nor is his understanding less than any PAS cleric. He continues to engage with reasoned arguments rather than call others names and threaten hell fire on others.

He is showing that there are statesmen and intellectuals in PAS among the simple minded, loud and rowdy elements who were seen and heard more during the last Muktamar.

Unfortunately the way of the world is for the lesser to envy their betters, and so those like Saari will continue to be criticised.

Axolotl: I applaud Saari Sungib and Morib state representative Hasnul Baharuddin for their courageous act, putting themselves on the firing line with Hadi Awang to save the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor.

At least these two brave and honest men can see the big picture, unlike those blinded by petty ambition and a narrow and shallow understanding of their own religion.

Odysseus: PAS as an organisation is completely dysfunctional. It does not have an organisational structure that's operational. No one seems to be calling the shots and this caused lots of confusion within PAS as well as Pakatan.

As what Saari said, PAS is not ready for big-time politics. They need to be ready from top to bottom. Otherwise, PAS will be the 'trouble maker' within Pakatan.

Negarawan: "Over many years, PAS has built a notion that it is the sole Islamic struggle that can interpret matters based on the Islamic perspective and others do not have the right to do so. This is very dangerous," said Saari.

PAS and Umno/Perkasa/Isma are using Islam as a pretext to gain power and wealth. This is no different from the modus operandi of Isis (Islamic State).

Rupert16: Well said, Saari. What you said about PAS also applies to the current Umno-led government, hence the reason for them to use the Sedition Act against those who have different political viewpoints or who speak up against the government and/or government agencies.

Truth Prevails: There are many 'forward thinking' people in PAS and they are well synchronised with the Pakatan manifesto.

A tough decision has to be made by these people who want to see the country develop further and better for the people. The process of elimination has to start with immediate effect and all the troublemakers must be removed.

Mushiro: The only problem in PAS is Hadi and some ulamas. Otherwise, the synergy with DAP and PKR would be moving fast ahead and Pakatan would be a real force that Umno cannot match.

It will be difficult for Pakatan to go back to its best strength with the current ulama leadership in PAS.

Swipenter: Any human organisation (including ideologies and philosophies) would have contradictions and differences.

That is natural and inherent in any human organisation because there is no perfect entity anywhere in the world. The important thing is how those in these organisations reconcile their contradictions and their differences amicably.

The organisation itself must also provide channels and an conducive environment for their members to air their opinions.

Only fossilised organisations headed by dogmatic and authoritarian leaders cannot tolerate different views from within and without. Such an organisation will eventually decay and fade away because change is the only permanent thing on earth.

It is a question of adapting to the prevailing times and we all know time does not wait for anyone; it just goes on and on and on.

Ourvotesdecide: There is nothing in the Holy Quran which says that Muslims must follow what Hadi or his group of clerics or ulamas in PAS commanded them to do.

Therefore, why the need to follow what Hadi and his clerics dictated to you. Hadi and his clerics are the ones who must listen to what others have to say.

If Hadi and his clerics are indeed commanded by Allah to do what they do including what they try to preach or dictate to us, why did Hadi lose Terengganu and Kedah after only one term?

Commentable: PAS' holier than thou notion perilous? I think Umno is much much worse and the sad problem is that it not only possesses but also controls many state apparatus that's empowered to say loudly that others have no right to interpret matters other than from their perspective.
