Heads continue to spin from PAS’ many flip-flops

YOURSAY ‘Perhaps PAS had rushed into marriage with Pakatan a little too soon?’

Ulama chief omits 'don't change MB' from speech

Malaccan: PAS ulama chief and Kelantan MB Ahmad Yaakob, like certain other ulamas, still pine for Khalid Ibrahim like lovelorn lovers. They can't get over losing their best bet to control the Selangor MBship through the back door.

If they said that Khalid was innocent until proven guilty, they should realise Khalid was not charged with a crime, but with an issue of integrity. In such cases, different tests apply such as credibility and acceptability.

The Majlis Syura along with Hadi and other senior ulamas are playing fast and loose having similarly removed Hasan Ali earlier.

On wasting assets, have PAS pounded the streets over the billions lost by the BN government? Such immature reasons by such a senior cleric.

It’s interesting there has been so much support for Khalid in PAS that one wonders what the agenda is when Wan Azizah has got only brickbats without any proof of unsuitability as MB.

These princes of PAS want one rule for others and another for themselves. No wonder these few find an affinity with Umno.

Kim Quek: Conservative speeches from the ulama are expected, but not to this extent. Talking like a political novice, and pushing his way around with “Islam says this, and Islam says that”, Ahmad Yaakob’s political naivety is shocking.

He seems to be ignorant and completely detached from the political realities and crucial issues surrounding the Selangor crisis.

His whole thoughts seem to be occupied with religion, with nothing to spare for the worldly art of politics. He should work full time as an ulama, not full-time as CEO of the Kelantan state government.

Maplesyrup: In coalition politics, no single party is entirely free to decide on its own without giving due consideration of the collective stand. It is regrettable that even the very top 'management' of PAS fails to understand this very fundamental principle.

It is no wonder that the Pakatan Rakyat coalition did so badly in the Selangor MB debacle. I think to be fair to PAS and all the Pakatan components, PAS should think long and hard whether the very fabric of what PAS believe in and practice, is suitable for coalition politics.

This is no different from bachelors who choose to marry - whether they are willing to give up a little of their own personal 'being' and opt to develop the 'oneness' with their spouse. Perhaps PAS had rushed into marriage with Pakatan a little too soon?

Ericlcc: Is PAS truly Islamic? What with all these flips and flops, twists and turns, denials, etc, one has to wonder somewhere along the timeline some untruths must have taken place.

Being self-declared champions of Islamic spirituality and piety, at the very least one would expect consistency of opinions and statements.

Ex-S'gor MB tells PKR to give sultan more names

Moonraker: The sultan does not need a list with more than one name from any party. The only relevant list has 56 names, the names of all the members of the House.

The sultan only has to choose from the list someone who in his opinion has the support of the majority of the members of the House. The person chosen may or may not be called upon to test his or her support in the House.

A minority government can survive so long as it is not challenged in the House. It would have to govern in such a way as not to cause the majority to vote against it.

There is no legal support for the "decree" for more names reported by the media to have been issued by the sultan, something not found in a constitutional monarchy.

Pemerhati: It is absolutely amazing that so many people cannot or refuse to understand that the constitution requires the sultan to appoint someone who in his absolute discretion has the majority support.

The Selangor sultan has been given legal proof that PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has the majority support. That means the sultan cannot appoint anyone else other than Azizah as only one person can have the majority support.

Thus it is ridiculous and it makes absolutely no sense to ask for more than one name. If it is interpreted that the term ‘absolute discretion’ entitles the sultan to ignore the choice of the majority and appoint anybody he likes, then it will mean that the sultan has dictatorial powers and there is no point in having elections in the future as the dictator will over rule the choice of the people and appoint his own lackey.

Jiminy Qrikert: And so this 'no unnerstan England' ex-MB (Muhammad Muhammad Taib) has predicted well - Selangorians will abandon PAS in droves.

Enough damage has been done by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his inner circle of ulamas to convince all non-Malays to abandon the party.

And enough has been done to scare the daylights out of Selangor Malays to want to keep PAS from transforming Selangor into another Kelantan. PAS in Selangor will collapse in GE14 just like MCA and MIC in GE13.

Commentable: Where else but in Malaysia that an under-qualified person stands a better chance of being appointed as MB.

No wonder, we persistently hear those helming our Education Ministry that world ranking is not important.
