‘Charge undeserving BR1M applicants with trying to defraud the nation’
ADS

I was utterly disgusted to read that 60,000 Bantuan BR1M applications rejected for exceeding salary limit as reported here and here.

My disgust was for these people having the temerity and audacity to apply in the first place. The second finance minister even said one applicant who had a monthly income in excess of RM12,000 applied for BR1M. What a joke.

While I am more than happy my tax dollars are used to assist the less fortunate by way of direct or indirect assistance, I definitely don’t want the assistance to go to those who are well-off themselves, regardless if RM4,000 monthly is not considered sufficient by some.

These people who apply knowing they don’t qualify must be charged with attempting to defraud the national coffers, charge a few of them in court and this problem will magically disappear.

While on the subject, the assistance is being financed by taxpayers’ contributions, so may I please ask politicians not to take the opportunity and inconvenienced the elderly and not so fortunate by asking them to come and manually collect a huge public gathering. If politicians still want to do that, by all means carry one, but not for BR1M, use your own money or earnings and you can do what you like , can ask people to come and collect from your homes even.

As Bank Negara Malaysia is going for cashless transactions, let’s not go backward for political opportunism in wanting to ‘meet the rakyat’ and hand over the money.
