From Feb 5 to 7, Jaclyn Victor performed in Moscow at the Winter Conference 2010, attended by about 300 medical students from all over Russia. She performed alongside many other international acts in this conference, themed ‘Change Begins With Me’.

NONE A true superstar with undeniably raw talent and an incredibly amazing voice, she was there to serenade us for the span of three days of the conference. On opening night, our first Malaysian Idol performed her winning single ‘Gemilang’ to a full house at the Renaissance Hotel Theatre.

Her performance was flawless, leaving no one in the room doubting her triumphant reign six years ago. She totally floored the crowd with her vocal range.

On the second day of the conference, she inspired the crowd of doctors-to-be that we should dare to dream big, with her rendition of ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ in the style of Yolanda Adams. H

er bubbly yet down-to-earth personality charmed the crowd as she encouraged the medical students to give back to the community with whatever skills that they had. She also did the justice to the song ‘Man In The Mirror’ sung originally by the late ‘King of Pop’.

She sang ‘The Prayer’ to a crowd of more than 1200 people, consisting of mainly Russians and Malaysians on the final day of the conference. There was a pin-drop silence as she performed splendidly to a spellbound audience, with the song ending in a standing ovation from the roaring crowd.

NONE The Winter Conference 2010, organized by the Malaysian Fellowship, is the first of it’s kind ever held by Malaysian medical students in Russia. Guest speakers included Kevin Loo of City Harvest KL, Matts-Ola Ishoel of Word of Life Moscow, Dr Shan Ong based in Sydney, Australia, and the MF’s very own Dalvinder Singh.

It aims to inspire future doctors to step out of their comfort zones and take positive action to make a difference in their communities and countries. ‘It’s not only what we as doctors can do for people in the future, but how we as medical students can serve the people all across Asia right now, through the launching of our Humanitarian Missions 2010,’ says Andrew Kok, director of the Malaysian Fellowship.

This would be Jaclyn Victor’s second time in Moscow. The first time was in 2007 where she performed at the Christmas Bash Charity Concert to a crowd of 1000 people, including ambassadors, local Russians and the medical student community here.
