Camry auction: Zambry being very 'petty'
ADS

I refer to the letter Camry auction: Zambry 'foolish, puerile' .

‘Penny wise, pound foolish' - this statement best describes the BN-appointed Perak MB's decision to sell the new Toyota Camry vehicles bought by the previous state government in favor of new Proton Perdana cars.

In times of economic crisis, the government of the day must utilise government assets and money wisely in order not to waste the taxpayers' hard-earned money unnecessarily.

The present state government should continue to utilise the new vehicles for their official functions for at least another five years as they are still new and will have a lesser maintenance costs as compared with new Perdana cars.

It is unbecoming of Zambry Abdul Kadir - who was selected rather than elected by the voters - to waste public funds frivolously just to spite the former state government for daring to buy the new Toyota Camrys.

One would think that with the PhD academic qualification that he has, he will try his utmost best to win the hearts and minds of the voters by using his exalted position to improve the economy, have better delivery systems and uplift the poor and downtrodden Perakians.

Such pettiness on his part to waste public funds by the disposing of the new vehicles does not speak well of his intellectual capability to drive the state to new heights of prosperity.

Zambry still does not command the people's respect and, in fact, the last by-election at Bukit Gantang showed that support for the opposition front has increased. The Pakatan MB. Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin won by a bigger majority.

If this trend continues, one can only conclude that come the next general election, BN will be history in the Silver State as the people are fed up with the present state government who took over the state illegally.

Democracy is about giving the public who they want based on their votes for their favorite candidates to be elected to high office. If there is a political impasse in the state assembly or in parliament , it is best that snap polls be held in order for the public to decide whom they want.

Prior to 2008, it was unimaginable to think that the BN government would not form the government both at the state and federal levels. But the watershed 2008 general elections shattered they myth that only BN can govern the country efficiently while the opposition parties should only be the backbenchers.

One would think that Zambry, who does not have the people's support to replace the likable and popular Mohd Nizar Jamaluddi, may resort to unethical methods to remain in power. The coming state assembly meeting on May 7 will be a highly-charged affair as there will be a motion by the BN representatives to replace the speaker.

But the speaker will have the last say in the august house on whether the motion can be passed in the assembly or not. The present speaker is the last man from the opposition front who can derail the present embattled BN state government in Perak.

The people who are watching the drama unfold in the Silver State will surely punish the arrogant BN come the next general elections as voters nowadays are more enlightened as to who is right or wrong.
